What do you mean by it's just a gas guzler?
You need torx bits to disassemble the q-jet. Chances are you'll need to open it up to rebuild it, or swap in jets/rods, and some point.
Give it a shot. Bolt it onto your engine (the manifold can wait, or you can do both at the same time...), and see how it runs. You'll need to set the idle speed, and probably idle mixture. Then try driving it around town. See if you bog is gone, see how it runs, etc etc.
I'd only do the carb (not the manifold), since you *might* induce a vacuum leak if you screw up on installing the manifold, and you'll spend months chasing a "carb" problem, when it's the manifold. So, one adjustment at a time makes tuning easier.
You'll need a carburetor mixture adjustment tool. It's a handle, with a 2' long flexable neck, then a bit holder. It'll come with about 5 different bits for different carbs, you'll only use the "double D" one for the q-jet. That's how you set your idle mixture, along with a vacuum gauge.
Do a search on the forums here for "setting q-jet mixture", or idle mixture, or... you get the idea. You're probably going to want to learn some stuff about that carb.

Yes, tighten them from center outwards. There's probably a picture in your haynes manual, but go left-right-left-right, from center, outwards. If in doubt, this is always the way to do it.

How or why do you think that? Are we talking about the q-jet still?

That intake (edelbrock performer) isn't a high rise.
And that makes no sense anyway.

I think so. Not my area of expertise, i'd ask for suggestions on the tranny forum as for choices.

The carb wasn't tuned to the intake manifold, it was tuned to the engine (assuming it actually was tuned).

intake is around 35ftlbs or so. Go in the pattern like mentioned.
Carb is just snug it up. Not too tight or you'll warp it.

oh, forgot about this thread.
yea, your idle speed is changing 'cuz you have a vacuum leak.
the carb gasket, you mean the one below the carb? Should be ~1/4" thick, if not, get another one. Might as well get a rebuild kit, $30 or so. It'll have that gasket in it, and a bunch of other parts that you may be needing in the near future.

You don't do anything to the motor until the carb is running perfectly.
First, what is your timing at idle, and WOT timing? Use a timing light, and find out. Use timing tape. This will give you more power.
2nd - re-set your air valve spring tension first. Post what your secondary rod and hanger combination is. This will probably fix your bog.

It's not that simple, there is no "air screw" and "fuel screw".
So, again, set up your timing.
Then set the air valve tension.
look on the main page of TGO for the how to article.

Seriously guy! I can't spoon feed this to you! Check the main page of TGO, and find the TECH ARTICLE called AIR VALVE ADJUSTMENT
It has a picture of how to do it!
I doubt you'll find a shop willing to tune it for you, or else it'll be $200 or so. Maybe $60, who knows, depends on how thorough they are.
I don't remember what you did, but make sure you've checked the timing.
