well just picked up an '84 z28 tonight. I drove it home and it did okay, but whenever i got to cruising speed when i was holding the gas down steady the car started kinda jerking. its tough to explain, but it gives the same feeling as if it were running out of fuel...kinda bogs down and starts jerking forward then back. it would also backfire every once in a while and i could smell gas. if i let off the accellerator it would run fine or if i give it more gas it ran fine. last owner said that the carb was recently rebuilt. i'm no mechanic and was hoping someone here could give me some suggestions to help me narrow down and solve the problem.

Kinda sounds like your running rich maybe, it wasnt rebuilt properly, theres alot of small pieces in a rebuild kit for a carb it easy to mess up if your not careful
