Keeping factory instrument cluster

Axle/Gears: not the best not the worst
Keeping factory instrument cluster

Right now i have a 91 305tbi Rs i am looking to switch to a carb in preperation for a 350 of some design still to be determined.... and i am looking to keep the original instrument cluster and run it through the ecm... is it possible could i just put in a new coil and distr. and just disconnect the old ones...?

The instruments aren't run through the ECM. So, with a distributor with vacuum and mechanical advance, you're good to go.

what about the speedometer? isnt 90-92 electronic controlled through the computer? If you took the ECM out, wouldnt the speedo stop working?

Nope - speedo will be fine as well. Might have to change speedo gears if you end up with a different geared rear differential, but the speedo will work.
