tpi to carb swap wiring questions

well ive decided to keep my ecm in there so the fans, fuel pump, and converter work until i can get enough money to find ways for them to work so i can ditch the tpi harness. The problem is i dont kno how to plug the stock wires to the dist i kno i have to cut the stock ones to connect to the new non cc hei dist but what kind of connecters plug into the new non cc dist that i can spice the old wires into so it works. Also how can i hook up the electric choke on my car?

Just need to find a hot-in-run wire from the harness and tap into it for the electric choke - grounding the other side of the choke anywhere.

On the distributor, I just crimped spade ends on the wires and stuck them on the HEI distributor.

Your 89 came originally with an external coil HEI. One of the two plugs on the top of that coil comes from the car's wiring harness (the other comes from the old computer controlled distributor). On the plug that comes from the car's wiring harness there are 2 wires: a big pink one and a smaller white one. Clip the coil connector off, put female spade terminals on the end of each wire (you may wish to extend the wiring a bit as well to reach the distributor easier). Attach the big Pink wire to the "BATT/12V+" terminal on your older large cap HEI. Attach the smaller White wire to the "TACH" terminal on the older style distributor.

Works like a charm. Your stock tachometer will even work!

ANY of the wires from your OEM harness that are not being used any more for the carb setup can be tapped into for the choke. I think on mine I used a wire from one of the fuel injectors.

But if you want to keep your OEM harness in tact (for resale or whatever) then just tap into any hot-in-run wire that you find.
