Carb for a 1985 Trans Am??
The carb on my car is starting to go to crap, it runs super rich until it's been running for a while and it's a pain in the hole to start on cold days, does anyone know a good place I could order a replacement carb? I hear on a stock 305 the stock q-jet works best, is there anywhere I can order those or equivalents? I'm not much of a gearhead so I would have to order all of the parts for my buddy to put on for me. Thanks in advance!

Your local auto parts store should be able to get you a rebuilt Q jet carb for a stock engine. There are also speed shops and mail order to consider. There is not much work to changing the carb assuming it is a direct replacement. There can be a lot of work if it's not. You can also get a rebuild kit and rebuild the carb you have. If you are staying Q-jet make sure you get the number off the side of the carb and use it to get a rebuild kit or replacement carb. I had a lot of trouble getting the proper kit for my carb because at some point someone replaced it with a carb from a Chevy pickup. There must be hundreds of variations of the Q-jet. What ever you choose to do, replace or rebuild, it still has to be set up properly when it is installed in the car.
So I talked to the guy I bought the car off about a year ago and he has been saying that he was gettin one rebuilt for it. I've been trying to get a hold of him and it seems there is a bit too much ******** around. Is there anyone that could tell me a carb that I could order online as a direct replacement for that? Nothing fancy with crome and all that junk, just something that is a good performance product that I just could take off and strap on, possibly with a little adjustment from the shop. Oh and I would go to a local place, but I live in a very small city (roughly 45,000 people) and no places around here really deal with having parts like that in stock for older cars, so I'd rather order it myself and bring it to the mechanic. It has a 305 LG4 in it.

At the top, it'll probably ask you for zip code. If not, then click on the "My Vehicle" button, then go through the menu for year (1985), make (Chevrolet), model (Camaro), and engine (305 V8 Vin "H"). Then, on the left margin, click on "Replacement Parts", then "Carburetors".
A few choices will come up, such as a Holley II or Champion remanufactured. You want the E4ME or feedback type carb. Any of those, except those that say Canadian, should be a direct bolt-on/plug-in replacement for your carb. Don't forget to add the core charge and shipping to the price. If you have a Checker/Shucks/Kragen or Advance Auto in your town, you can pick it up there. What I typically do is print out the page, go to one of those stores, ask them to look up what I'm trying to get, then have them match the price. In this case, I could go to the Checker store that is closest to my house and pick up a p/n 6470087, which they have in stock. The others would have to be shipped.
Adjustments when you put it on should be minimal, such as idle speed. The finer adjustments, such as idle air bleed and TPS, will probably be close, but would need to be set properly to pass emissions testing.

Ok so I think I finally have his settled out, I got the apparently best guy in town to rebuild my carburetor, so I think I'm set. So I was wondering, ever since I've owned this car, this junk carb has been on it, I was just wondering what kind of performance increases I will notice when the carb is rebuilt and back in good quality. I know I'll get better gas mileage, and my flooding problems will be solved, will there be much of a power difference from this once it's fixed? Basically I'm just wondering how much of a difference I will notice when it's done.
Even in warm weather it would have to be running for a bit to start going good. She could never really burn the tires, but I don't know if these car's stock are supposed to be able to but yeah, that's pretty much the jist of that.

I would advise you to ensure that the mechanic rebuilding your carb installs it and verifies that the feedback operation is working correctly. Too often carb problems are the result of a problem external to the carb. O2 sensor, CTS, VAC sensor, TPS (I know, inside carb but not always replaced, or checked, when carb is rebuilt), etc.
And NO, don't try to "burn the tires" with the LG4, it's not a performance beast and must be treated with the proper respect.
