EGR

Do carbureted 305's have EGR? Just wondering because I wanted to get this manifold. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...6&autoview=sku

But it says non EGR and I dont know if that means I can't buy it because I do need to pass emmissions in NY. I was also going to put a holley on top. Would that also make me fail emmissions?
Than You

Yes, every 3rd gen 305 delivered in the U.S. had an EGR valve.

That manifold, regardless of EGR or no, it way too much for a stock 305. You'd need a whole bunch of mods to make it work the way it was intended.

Holley carb = emissions inspection failure.

Yeh that's great news. I hate emmissions even more now. Thanks for the help. Yeah after reading the caption for the manifold it did seem to be alittle to crazy. I do have a small energy cam though anddddd thats about it. I'll probably just get a edelbrock carb and intake (EGR). Thanks again.

Intake okay, carb a waste of money.

You have a very good street performance carb on there now. It is also emissions-legal and emissions-friendly. Nothing else you could put on there would meet those criteria.

Stick with the stock carb. You won't make more power with anything else you could put on it. And, frankly, until you do other things, such as headers and full exhaust, cam, head porting & larger intake valves, the manifold isn't even needed.

What do you have for an air cleaner?

I do have a 3 inch flowmaster cat back and i want to put on some long tubes but I can't find any that are emmissions legal with good size primaries. I'm so jealous of my brothers 78Z because we can do almost anything to it and there are so many aftermarket parts for it. Thanks for the tip on the carburetor. Since My Q isn't holding a prime to well I am now thinking of getting a rebuild kit or buy a new Q. What would be better? Oh yeah my air cleaner is a 14X4 inch KaN with a powerlid element on top. I have to get my computer tuned for it so my motor doesn't run lean since theres alot more air going into the Q now.
Thanks for the help

Hooker 2055HKR will handle anything a 305 can put out. Technically, they're for TPI engines, but unless the inspection is so strict that they check the p/n against application, that won't be a problem (they didn't squawk about them here, and we have a pretty strict inspection - CA is about the only place you'd have an issue). The y-pipe is a beautiful mandrel-bent 3" to the cat. With a Catco 9118 direct-fit cat or equivelent, and a 3" cat-back, exhaust will be both legal and good-flowing. The driver's side A.I.R. checkvalve fitting on those headers points to the rear, so you'll have to manage that somehow to get it connected.

The q-jet not holding a prime is one of two issues: 1) the well plugs on the bottom of the fuel bowl leaking; 2) fuel filter not having the check valve. #1 is easy to handle during a rebuild. Tuning is a given - secondaries, mostly, if this is a CC carb.

The Powerlid isn't doing you much good. It just sticks into the underhood blanket. A dual snorkel air cleaner, or a cowl hood with open element are better choices.

Yeah I was just thinking about getting a set shortys either the ones you posted or the edelbrock TES. You are right about me not needing the long tubes because I'm really not making that much power, it's mainly stock.

Speaking of well plugs, my brother just showed me an article in Chevy High performance yesterday about Q jets saying that the well plugs go after time and it's an easy fix. So what I'm going to do is buy a rebuld kit. Thanks for the help.

Now the powerlid. I have actually felt a slight(and I mean slight) differance in throttle response. It also has a really cool sucking noise. I don't really want to get a cowl because so many people have them, especially on trucks. But my friend gave me an excellent idea which I'll probably do with him next summer. He took the stock IROC hood and cut out the center where the grooves are on the hood and welded some steel under it on both sides. The finished product was amazing. It looks like a cowl but it still has the iroc louvers on it. I haven't seen anybody else do that.
Thanks for all your help.
