Those Running the Mallory 4309 Regulator...
I got a pressure guage yesterday and finally took the car to get some gas. I was reading 5.5 at idle (which is what the manual says, so I was confident) She was stumbling pretty bad. Made it to the station and got gas. Car would not start back up afterwards. The mechanic took a look and saw it was because when I turn the key to the 'on' position, nearly no fuel is building any pressure. It was at maybe 3 psi. He said I was making enough to barely idle but when I gave her any load, shed drop right down.
QUESTION:
When you guys turn the key to 'on', and the pump primes, do you get any pressure reading? Does it go up to 6psi like I would expect it to, and then stay there still when you start your car and run it?
I'm afraid my fuel pump is now gone, and I'll have to drop the tank and go mechanical =(. Also too, I can barely hear it prime now, and before the swap, it would howl like somebody was trying to kill it.
EDIT: Just in case, can someone double check my regulator routing? I've gone by what the instructions say, but just in case:
-The feed line comes into the side of the regulator. it is the fuel line that is on top, and is slightly bigger
-The return line comes out of the bottom
-The line to the carb comes out of the other side of the regulator, making a 90 degree angle with the feed line.
-The other two lines are plugged off.

Update:
So I go out to check on things with the car, and find out that it is reading the correct pressure now, with no problems. Turn key, and it goes right to 6psi. So it was running again, rough though, but I think it's because the timing was way out of whack, but I fixed it and set it to 8 degrees advanced, with my new timing light.
I cut the motor and checked on some things, and when I tried to start it up again to try her out, I got zero pressure again. Same deal as with last night. Then pressure started to build and I had it at 6 again, but I still get no start, not so much as a pop or a rumble, its just cranking, which leads me to believe I don't have spark now. What gives?

do you still have the fuel pressure cut of switch in your block above your oil filter? if so you can, and this isnt the correct way to make it run but to test the fuel pressure, short out the plug on it to get the fuel pump to stay on when the key is on. i had to do this before i started my car up for the first time to get the pressure correct. because of the issues i had with mine i started with it at 0psi (free flowing) and adjusted up. i had some crazy issue with the pressure jumping around, but thats for another thread......
