Back firing
i wasnt sure where to put this thread but since i have carb i thought this would be ok...
alright my car back fires quite a bit and i cant figure out y...i have cat back exhaust but a stock intake so i hear that can make it back fire alot but then i noticed that it back fires more when i first start the car and its cold then when its warmed.
and i mean it backfires all the time....mostly when i hit the gas and let go quickly. i plan on buying a ram air hood to put more air into the carburetor to stop this but i wanna know some other reasons my car could be doing this so i dont blow my money right away

It's usually timing. Borrow a timing light and see where you're at.
It's probably retarded too far.

Check all your ignition wires, make sure they are all in the correct firing order, and make sure they are all solidly on the plugs and dist. cap. I had a plug wire that looked like it was on the plug all the way, and felt like it, but it wasn't - it would pop off on it's own - I squeezed it a tad with pliers and now it stays on.
Also check the continuity of all the plug wires - I also once had a broken one wire causing no juice to that plug and it made me backfire.

timing
I would say that you have a timing problem.
If you removed your stock exhaust then check to make sure that you have all your vaccum hoses pluged right. If you revoved the stock exhaust manifold, then you must have removed the vaccume hose for your EFE.
Check to make sure that your timing advance was untouched.
If no vaccum for advance, then no vaccum advance at all. If vaccum advance is on manifold vaccum, then = advance all the time.

im gonna check all that it in good time cuz the weather outisde is horrible and i dont have a garage,,, but is it just a rumor that un even intake and exhaust can cause backfiring....cuz i know my stock intake is very very restrictive and i have the flowmaster cat back...so can that cause backfiring at all??

not realy.
but just for good measure, what engine is it?
sounds like timing too far back. now that you have that big exhaust, you can realy hear it.
