Need some help PLEASE
I will try to explain as best I can.
I started with the 84 Firebird with the HO 305, I totaly rebuilt the engine. Non stock parts I installed: larger mild cam, Edl intake, 1406 Edl carb, headers.
The engine runs great! It starts perfect when cold, and runs perfect when hot or cold. I can drive it to town and shut it off and it has a hard start. No the starter does not turn over slow, no it does not diesel, and no it does not run hot. The coolant temp reads 195 - 205 depending on how hard i drive it never any hotter.
Here is exactly what happens: I shut it off when hot, it will crank right up every time if restarted right away. If it sits more than 90 seconds the engine has to turn over for 8 to 10 seconds before it will crank, it has heavy fuel smoke when it starts. It goes away imediatly after it starts. I can tell it is flooding. I think I have it narrowed down, the carb is getting too hot, the fuel is boiling and leaking into the intake. (I took the carb off when hot and it was dripping fuel) it only does it when the carb is hot.
I have removed the hood and used a spacer plate in hopes of clearing this up. Nothing has worked. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.
