QJET sputtering and chokeing
When I start my car after a few days the car has a hard time holding idle. It will shake and sputter and it makes "boom, boom" sounds comming from the engine bay before stalling out. If i hold my foot on the gas for about 2mins at a decent RPM the engine will hold idle and not stall at all. I bought the carb used but dont know much about it. The car is not driven. I usually add $5 worth of gas at a time from my jerry can. So the tank is always near empty. ALSO I cannot adjust the idle below 900 rpm or the car starts sputtering and barley runs.
any ideas?

Stock feedback carb and distributor? Any ses codes? Have you checked timing and dwell? Did this problem start suddenly or has it always been like this? All wires and vacuum lines plugged into something?

Re: QJET sputtering and chokeing
Its a stock CC setup. I do not have the SES light hooked up to my 4thgen cluster but I will add it. Before when I got the car the carb was messed up. The car would start perfect ans hold a steady 900rpm idle but would stall when in gear. Eventually that carb would not even start the motor. I borrowed a carb from a monte ss. But it was not A CC. The car actually ran good with this carb but clearly was not the right one. Lastly i bought this carb from a guy parting a 87 forumla. The choke has been revited on so the two screws are not there to remove. This carb will hold idle but only after a warmup. The timing on the motor has never been touched. I just bolted this carb on and that was it.

Re: QJET sputtering and chokeing
Well, you'll need to adjust the choke most likely. Buy a carb rebuild kit, and rebuild the carb, or save that for later, and use the screws for your choke. Drill out the rivets holding the thermostat on, and put in the screws. Adjust that, as well as cold idle RPM, and vacuum break.
Do a search for how to adjust those, but if the car runs well after it's warmed up, choke is a good thing to check.

If you've still got the original carb you may want to try a rebuild on it. Kit should run you around $20 plus some carb cleaner. There's a thread somewhere started by Nate86 that has a lot of good info on rebuilding the carb.
