Converting to non-electronic system

I have a 305, and it has a quadra-jet on it right now with all the electronics, and I'm looking to replace my intake manifold and my carburetor. Can anyone tell me what types of carburetor I need to buy and what kind of intake manifold I need? I think I may have a new Edelbrock intake manifold lying around that should go onto the engine, but what about the carb? Can anyone supply me with specifications (like part numbers, where to buy, what I need to look for in the carb) or where I can find the necessary information, that would be spectacular.

****AND THIS IS FOR A NON-ELECTRONIC SYSTEM****

I will be putting on a regular distributor to do my dirty work.

What are you trying to fix or improve?

There is only one "improvement" non-CC carb type out there, and that's a mechanical secondary (aka - "double pumper"). If you have a manual transmission or regularly race the car, you can justify a non-CC carb.

Anything else is a downgrade. I know that didn't answer your question, but it's the ugly truth.

Re: Converting to non-electronic system

This just because I hate electronics and it doesn't work properly, a lot of the existing wire has been slashed already and is pretty well beyond repair. It's not a stick, but it will become a race car in the near future. I'm the family amateur, and I'm seeking you guys for help. Right now the vehicle does not start, and I just cleaned the plugs and rebuilt the existing carb. Besides having old gasoline, what else could be the issues here? (Starts fine while using quickstart on the 3rd or 4th burst, which is why I'm trying to trace my issue to be the intake).

Thanks!!!

"Quickstart"?

Wires hacked up is an issue. So is old gasoline. I doubt it's a problem with the intake.

Get fresh gas in it and see how it goes.

I wouldn't bother changing the carb until you're in race-car configuration. Unless you simply can't get it running - and it should at least start if it's getting fuel and spark.

Re: Converting to non-electronic system

You spray quickstart into your carb and it fires up, sort of like dumping gasoline right into the cylinder, but it's more of a spray. I know I'm getting a spark for sure, and I can kind of get the car to start up but I can't rev it because she stalls. If it's not carb or intake issues, where do I look next? All the spark plugs fire, that's not a problem. Should I just siphon all the gas out and refill with some new?

Fresh gas would be the first step.

Okay, you're spraying starter fluid into the carb. If it starts after that, you probably don't have good starting conditions - fuel, choke, etc. Is the choke fully closing when you open the throttle a little when cold?

Re: Converting to non-electronic system

No, it isn't. I'll go siphon most of the gas out tonight, then run down to the store and get a can of it to pour into the tank. Once I start it with Quick start and she idles for a bit, she seems fine, actually. I has been sitting for 3 years so that could explain why it's so slow to start, anything I should look for (stored indoors).
