Fuel Pump issue after Carb swap

I recently swapped from TPI to carb. I dropped the tank and installed a electric FP but I dont have any fuel pressure. The pump turns on but I get nothing. I installed a piece of hose where the in-take pump used to be in the tank. The FP is mounted right behind the rear passenger seat below the tank. What is the best way to diagnose the problem without having to drop the tank again?

Did you put gas in the tank?

What kind of pump did you install?

Yes there is gas in the tank. I installed the Holley 150 pump.

Make sure you don't have any leaks between the tank and pump.

To make sure the pump is working, take it out, put the inlet in a bucket of fluid (could probably use water, diesel fuel would be better, gasoline would be the most dangerous), power it up and see if it pumps.

Re: Fuel Pump issue after Carb swap

Over lunch i tested the pump and it is pulling gas from the tank so my blockage is somewhere upstream. It is either the TPI filter or maybe a crimp in the fuel line somwhere. Thanks for all the help.

I take it the filter is after the pump. Did you put a pick-up screen in the tank? Not an issue with the problem you have now, but could cause the pump problems down the road.

I would have replaced the filter when I did all this, but. . .

Hope you find the problem soon.

Re: Fuel Pump issue after Carb swap

I am going to change the filter tomorrow and see if thats the problem. I checked the line tonight and I didnt see any kinks so I think it must be the filter. The filter is a TPI high pressure filter I wonder if that makes a difference.

Doesn't make a difference, just get a new one.

Re: Fuel Pump issue after Carb swap

I changed the filter and that seemed to fix that problem because I can get gas to the carb now. But now I have a new problem with the pump. I have it plumbed with a return line so I decided to let it run for about for a little bit so I could check the lines for any leaks well the pump started to slow down and then it stopped. It has power so it was not a dead battery or anything. I went underneath to check the wiring at the pump and that was good as well. But when I felt the pump it was really hot. So I pulled it out and checked the screen in the filter and it was not clogged. It has a good gravity feed I dont know why it is running so darn hot. I have it mounted behind the passenger seat. Any guesses?

Might not be circulating enough with the motor not running, try it with it running and c what it does.
