What did you do with all of your TBI wiring?

Hi Chevy Brothern,

I own a 91' Chevy K1500 350 Pick up truck and I have taken the engine out and rebuilt it and Is doing a TBI to carb conversion, and now I want to clean up the engine compartment today before I put it back in. I want to know what wires are for the TBI and ones for guages. So I can get to clipping. If someone can make a quick tutorial that would be great. or a diagram. I belive the TBI system on my truck is very much like one on a Camaro. I am usualy at fullsizechevy.com but decided to pop in over here. Here is my thread over there if you want to see pics of my new engine http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...ld-w-pics.html

the only wires you need for your gauges are the water temp which is single wire on driver side cylinder head between 1&3. and oil pressure, could be next to dist. or above oil filter. the 2 wires that went to the old coil white and red can simply go straight to the new dist. reds power whites tach lead. really simple.

All the wires on the passenger side are useless now

Re: What did you do with all of your TBI wiring?

I dont mean to hi-jack your thread, but I had a similar question and posted it in the wrong forum. I was wondering where do I start cutting also. I mean I keep my Oil pressure sensor, temp, sensor, and oil sending unit so it will start, but how much of the computer do I disable? Where? Do I leave the relay box bolted to the intake and keep everything running through it? Sounds like I do, but I want to be sure. I leave the all the air hoses and water hoses also I know that. The distributor wires will need to remain in place too. Is it only the plugs that go to my TBI that I remove for a carb converison? Ive done the other research regarding the fuel pressure, TQConv. and throttle positioning/return, but cannot figure out where to cut off my computer.

The article on this forum helped a bunch as I did not consider the throttle return spring. However, the article did not address the computer's/relay's necessity.

The Computer runs the fuel injection and that's about it so take it right out!
Remember that you need to do something about your lockup torque converter though. Either have a toggle so you can lock it up manually or you can buy a kit that does it for you automatically I believe. I can't tell you for sure cause I ditched the lockup completely.
