Vacuum airfilter?
Vacuum airfilter?
Hey guys, I just bought some rims from a guy a ways a ways and he had a ugly little ford project (283di 8cyl i think he said...) but the thing that really made me curious was the air intake... he had a huge hole cut in the hood and sticking up halfway thru the hole was what looked like a airfilter inside a little airbox, and being from california I thought something like that was definately not street legal... has anyone heard of anything like that?

289, perhaps? That's a Ford engine, 283 is a Chevy engine.
Sounds like a little carb-mounted scoop. Pontiac did a similar thing with their 2nd gens, facing the windshield. Nothing illegal about it on older pre-emissions cars.
Not sure what you mean by "vacuum", though.
