I'm thinking about going carb and dumping my TPI setup. I'm wondering will there be a big difference in power and fuel economy? Also how difficult is it to switch to carb. How much more power can I expect to gain. I'm tring to figure out if the added power is worth the fuel economy loss. My current setup is as follows.


The motor is a 350 roller bored 40 over, vortec heads with stainless valves, 2.02 / 1.60 's, .510 lift springs
1.5 roller rockers
slp cam made by comp (218/224 duration and 498/502 lift)
the intake is vortec tpi lower (made by edelbrock)
accell large tube runners
ported plenum (egr passage ground down and gasket matched)
stock throttle body,k&n filters,
accell adjustable fuel pressure regulator
24lb fms injectors
180 t-stat
car also has a 255gph pump
for exhaust it has shorty hedman headers, with a hooker exhuast.

The car put down 278RWHP and 317RWTQ after tune.

The baseline was 236RWHP and 289RWTQ.

These run were made on a mustang dyno.

 

yea much more power, fuel economy may suffer.

performer rpm air-gap and a holley 750 double pumper would be the way to go. You should search on the steps to swap to carb, there are thousands of the same question.

 

How much more power? I dont mind the lost of fuel economy for a big gain. The car is not my daily driver.

 

well the cam is still on the small side for a carb car since you can get away with a lot more, I can't give you an exact number, just know that selling your complete tpi system on ebay, etc including computer, harness, and everything else will buy the carb intake and HEI distributor easily and should have coin left over towards the carb.
