'86 base coupe running lean
'86 base coupe running lean
My Camaro 305 base 4bbl happens to be running lean, lean enough to set a light. Originally, when I got it, it had an EGR and lean code, I replaced the valve, and deleted the codes, and still got the lean(code 44). I checked for vaccuum leaks by spraying carb cleaner, and determined it was the gasket, I took the carb off, and the bolts were loose! I replaced that gasket, but am still lean. No other codes, so I am at a bit of a loss now. Any comments, questions, and suggestions are quite welcome, as I am now thinking of just getting a carb from the junkyard and rebuilding it.

You're getting the lean code from the PCM, or have you figured it out with a different method. Sometimes the computer will set one code, when you've actually got a different problem. How do the plugs look? Any hint of an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor, that can make a false lean condition, the computer will compensate with extra fuel and you'll actually run rich, all the while with the computer thinking things are lean. Have you verified fuel pressure?

More information, the choke does not open fully, but when I manually open it, the car wants to die, even when warm. Also, I just looked at it, and apparently the three-wired plug on the front of the carb, right next to the fuel inlet, has a broken wire. I've looked at the exploded diagrams on here, and it looks to be the TPS? I'll fix that wire tomorrow.
I have not yet checked for exhaust leaks, I looked at a plug, but forgot exactly what it looked like, but wasn't amazingly bad. Also, have not verified fuel pressure. I'll get on some of those things and see where they lead me. Thanks!
