Re: new carb
stock dist. i have three vac lines that i have to hook up. one is on the base of the carb i beleive its for the vac advance on the dist. the other is a brass fitting on the main bowl assembly that i think goes down to the trans vac line. and the third i have plugged and its right under the secondary diagphram

A stock distributor doesn't have vacuum advance, unless this is a Canadian car.

Re: new carb
ok i learned something new today thanks. so does it matter were the vac lines are hooked up to or just hook them up. i know one goes down to the trans and the other looks like it goes down to a sensor by the dist from there i cant see. on the holley and its an older model theres the brake booster line which is hooked up. then on the passenger front on the bottom is a connection for line there. then the brass fitting on the main bowl assembly and one by the vac secondary diagphram the carb is a 4160 model if that helps

You need a different distributor. One with vacuum and mechanical advance. The stock distributor is operating in "limp home mode".
You also need a geometry corrector bracket for the transmission throttle valve cable - it isn't a "kick down" cable, and unless you get this right, you will burn out your transmission.
