Electric Fuel pump ECM problem

I'm swapping from a 3.1TPI to a carb 350. It'll run for about fifteen seconds each time before dying from lack of fuel. I believe that the ECM controlled fuel pump feed isn't doing it's job, because the computer is just basically confused as hell because nothing is hooked up to it. Would i be well enough off the just bypass the relay and run a hardwire with a toggle switch inside the car?

Re: Electric Fuel pump ECM problem

The ECM will only try to run the pump for 2 seconds after turning the key on or after it sees the last reference pulse from the distributor, so that might not be your problem.

The best way to wire it would be to use an oil pressure switch to power the pump while the engine is running, with a wire from the starter solenoid to power it during cranking if you need it.

Re: Electric Fuel pump ECM problem

The ignition switch still primes the pump, so I bypassed the relay and wired it through a toggle I mounted on the dash and ran off of a 12v spare ignition port on the fuse panel. It only comes hot when the key is on, so it's the best option. thanks though.
