89 RS help
89 RS help
The above car has been changed from a 305 to 350, not sure the compression ratio because I bought from a local rebuilder. I have added hooker shorty headers with no cat and flowmaster muffler with dual outlets. Comp. cams 260h. It cranks and drives, but with the TBI it just isn't right. I did this swap before I found this web site so I didn't know it would be a problem, I even bought the Holley 670 TBI and the Holley Pro-Jection intake. There is no one in this area that I know of that can burn chips, I am not sure at 55 years of age that I want to try it. So if I go with a Holley 670 street avenger and either a older Weiand dual plane intake or the Summit dual plane will it be better than what I have on it now. I have done alot of research and I think I have everything to do the swap, regulator, dist. etc. I had this motor in a full size 83 Caprice with the summit intake and Holley and it seemed to run good. 1 last thing at the local u-pull it yard there is Camaro with disc brakes on the rear end, is it a good chance that the gears would be lower than mine (700r trans in mine). I can get it for 65 bucks and know some lower gears will help this car Tbi or carb. Hope I didn't ramble to much I have this car looking good with Harwood hood and interior out of a 2002 camaro and really want to get it finished so I can drive it. Its 3 am and I don't have to get up for work til 5 am but this is causing some sleep less nights.

It should run better than a stock 305 chipped 350, but not better than a properly tuned TBI.
I wouldn't let yourself get intimidated over PROM tuning. A lot of older guys like us do it without issues.

Re: 89 RS help
If I can't get this tuned right with the TBI, I found a super clean 86 Trans Am wrecked with the computer quadrajet. Could I use this intake to install a non computer quadrajet on my motor? Still wanting on opinions on the purchase of the rear end.

Yes, the '86 q-jet manifold will work for a non-computer q-jet.
The center two intake mount bolts on each side will be at a different angle, though. Your '89 heads have those bolts at 72 degrees instead of 90 degrees like all the other bolts.
