1987 iroc

I just got a 1987 iroc. The owner before had swapped to a carb but instead of putting in a new fuel pump he put 2 fuel pressure regulators. It was working fine when I got it but I put a gauge on and the psi to the carb was reading over 15, i followed what he was doing and put another regualtor on, it dropped the psi to 5 but it starves the engine. I think the fuel pump has trouble pushing fuel through all three regulators at the rate the engine needs. So I removed the first one in the line of three and it made it worse, their is 0 psi pressure and the fuel pump is on. I can slowly feel the fuel lines getting hard, The one before the frist reg is always hard, then the one after it slowly got hard. But it stopped their, and still no psi reading on the in line gauge

Re: 1987 iroc

Well I can't help too much but I will say that my carb on my 350 with a 750carb is only running 3lbs-3 1/2lbs. So I would think when it was at 5 that would be alot but idk it's is just what my car was set at when I bought it.

Do you have a return style regulator, or dead end type?

Re: 1987 iroc

You have THREE regulators?? THREE!?!?

I need to see a picture of this!

Why don't you get ONE regulator that's the correct type. Try a Mallory return-style regulator. It works fine when converting from a high pressure EFI system to a low pressure carb system. Used it several times myself when continuing to use the stock in-tank pump with a carb. Besides, those in-tank pumps were never designed to be run against a dead-head style regulator.

Re: 1987 iroc

Where would I get one of these type of regulators. I have two holley regulators at the momemt and a "spectre" regulator from checkers sitting in my garage. The pressure is anywhere from 5 psi to 20 psi according to my gauge.

Summit, Jegs, etc. Mallory 4309.

You're killing your pump. 3 regulators, or even 2, won't do anything that one proper one can't do.
