Holley 4160

I have a question for some of you Holley guru's. I finished my T5 swap and when i reinstalled my engine I installed a brand new 4160. It has a major dead spot off of idle. Open teh throttle slowly it works great. Open it to fast and it falls on its face. My base timing is 10 degrees. I have tried adjusting the timing, idle mixture screws and cant get it out. The throttle response past this point is absolutly amazing to say the least, better than the Edlebreak 1406 ever had.
BTW running 5.5psi fuel pressure regulated down from the 13psi TBI electric fuel pump.
Any ideas????

Check the operation and adjustment of the accelerator pump.

BTW, a 4150 double pumper would have been the better carb for a T5 car.

Re: Holley 4160

When I was out there earlier that was the next thing I checked. If you move the throttle any at all the accelorator pump starts its stroke. When it is sitting there at an idle it smells rich. I could not pass the carb up a guy I work with is the evening manager at advance and they were dumping all performance parts so I bought it for a 100 bucks. I was tired of the 1406 it is a POS

Re: Holley 4160

Where would you run your vac advance from, the only thing I have not tried is a full vacuum port verses the timed port I am running off of

Re: Holley 4160

Try the (Holley Tuning) post by sofakingdom above. Sounds like the acc pump arm may need ajusting along with idle circuit and a possable blown power valve.

Re: Holley 4160

I dont believe it to be a power valve issue. The carb has never been popped back through at all and his has less than an hour of run time on it. I will try to put some more tension on the spring for the accelerator pump tonight...

You don't adjust it for tension, you adjust it for travel. With the throttle held wide open, you should be able to just get a .015" feeler gage between the pump arm and the spring loaded bolt. If you can get a thicker gage in there, you aren't getting full travel. If less, you could damage the pump.
