Which set up

I have a 85 trans-am with the 305 ho. Looking to replace the original car and manifold, Not doing anything crazy to the engine just headers and exhaust down the road what is a good setup for my car. I haqve looked at so many and read so many reviews im getting a little confused. This is my first car engine i have a 96 trans am but the engines are apples and oranges lol, Any suggestion or advice would be great. And please dont just say edelbrock or holly. Give me a specfic that you guys think would work good on my car. I am looking to get rid of this junk oem setup cause it needs rebuilt and id rather just put something nicer in her, She only have 35k original miles so no looking to change her that much but put a little shine under the hood, I figure ill spend around $800 from what i have seen

any suggestions

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

My specific recommendation is to get over your negative bias against the factory carb. Without reservation I can say it is the best street performance carb system available, regardless of cost. If it needs a rebuild, then rebuild it. It isn't that hard, and is a lot easier than downgrading to a Holley or Edelbrock. And, the results will be better than any other possibility out there.

The "problem" your car has is not the carb or distributor. On the FAQ forum there is a thread about the differences between 305's and performance improvements. In it you will see that the exhaust, cam, heads, and intake manifold hold the 305 back. The carb and distributor aren't mentioned because they aren't the problem.

If the system can handle my 350, it can handle your 305. And, it handles my 350 better than the Holley I tried on it last year.
