high rough idle. dies under load and low idle

as the top says. i've tried everything reset the timing. again... and agian.. checked all the 4 vaccum ports no leaks.. new mech advance springs. set timing again.. set idle misture screws on carb.. again checked timing.. cars starts right up.. scince it's cold.. fully choked.. and will everytime. but it will not idle low( under 1k) or it sputters out and dies. when put into r or DR( don't wanna use DR TV cable still on the list to get right) just drops rpm and dies.

i replaced the mech advance srpings with then next step up. starts at 1700-2k range.. instead of the 700.. dizzy is a msd billet street fire. new coil..

as for electrical.. all i can say the old harneses are all in the trash i made a custom switch pannel to relay pannel. that controls everything( fuel, ign, fan) and all is grounded all the circuts are fine.. alt is hooked up right everything works great. 14v charging blah blah

now the more i read the more frustrated i get cause every thread i read on TGO that has this problame or somthing close doesn't have a answer or isn't responded to. i am asking you. tuning or carb or who ever guru's. plz help . i'm no noobie when it comes to this. and i'm stumped..

*things i haven't checked.
-intake gasket not sealing-ex. vaccum leak.
-valve train not adjusted properly( no odd nosies)
-take then carb completley apart.- had to take the top of the 1405 edle 600 cfm to get it to take fuel .. float bowls were stuck down from sitting so long. maybe somthing is wrong with the carb.? but everyone keeps saying 90% of carb issues are with the timing

Thanks

motor specs are as follows

stock bottom end
vortec head
comp cam's xe262h
crane gold RR's
edelbrock preformer intake
edelbrock 1405 600 cfm manual choke carb- bought used
msd street fire dizzy
stock replacement coil.. blew 3 coils up with old wiring harness haven't had a problame since
serp serup with 105 amp alt. charging 14v

timing set at 10 deg BTDC without vac advanced hooked up and 34 deg of total timing.

sorry to say this but i would still bet money your a tooth off or it is a vacuum leak doesn't really seem like it can be anything else. Check the carb seals though just encase you have a leak there.

Re: high rough idle. dies under load and low idle

Sorry I got no real good answer for you ridecamro. I did have similar problems though.

Replaced original Qjet with reman Qjet, problems were much worse (learned my lesson on reman Qjets), freshened orignal Qjet reinstalled, little more tuning. Somewhat better.

Replaced the EGR valve, not much change.

Replaced the fuel pump, a little better.

Replaced the alternator, stopped buzzing the stupid Choke light (as much).

Pushed the timing back to 8 BTDC

Now mine idles (900-1000 rpm on factory tach) and revs real nice sitting still.

Put it under load though and it's still sluggish, but at least now it idles right. I'm guessing my plug gap may be my problem (set to stock 0.035) since I put in the slightly warmed up 305 running 10.5:1 compression with a mild cam?

Anyone have any thoughts on ridecamro's problem or mine?

Re: high rough idle. dies under load and low idle

ok ruled out vaccum leak. between carb cleaner and a vaccum gauge holding 18 pounds solid witha cam i would say that good enough and the carb clean didn't raise the idle.. now i took the carb off last night rebuilt it full let it sit in carb dib for about 4 hours. put one step up jets in it. secondary and the mains. and maybe one size to big for the metering rods. but those are easy to replace. it idles now but rich as ****. and will get down in idle.. but it's deffinetly in the 8-9 af ragne if i had to guess. going to test the timing agian today to see if i can get it to take one size smaller metering rods

Re: high rough idle. dies under load and low idle

ok new update drove it around the block today. couple chances to test WOT. trans TV cabel is mis adjusted agian. has a miss under load at around 3k rpm.. i think to rich. with the secondarys would be opening. pulled very nice in 1st when it got past 3k but then shifted imidetly. i have the idle mixture screws almost all the way in. and still black smoke every were. sooo. i'm thinking main jet size down one.. i put a .101 in thier.. stock said was .100 and the stock jets are tost cause they wouldn't come out. maybe jump down a size? now is a tuning issue if i could get some help on that know on the exact procedure to get it were you" want" it
