What size carb should I go with
What size carb should I go with
Here is whats in the works...
421 sbc that will come in around 10.6:1
N/A (maybe add juice somewhere down the road)
Heads in use are AFR 227 eliminators
Cam duration @ .050 252/262
cam lift .390/.390
valve lift .585/.585
lobe separation 110
Intake I have two that im still undecided on either a rpm air gap or a super victor (both are sitting on the shelf waiting)
ideas on that would be helpful as well
I want this to be a streetable car that is well capable of running at the track but will only maybe see a weekend or two of track time.
Will be an automatic with probally a 3500 stall and a 9" out back
I would like to stick with something with an electric choke since in Mn a
40* morning in fall isnt uncommon...
What carb size should I go with, without killing all streetability anyways??

Re: What size carb should I go with
You didn't mention RPM range, but I'd think around 850 CFM would be a good minimum size for a street engine that size.
I think streetability will be more an issue of how the linkage is set up for throttle opening.
Factory type carbs have small primaries, and the secondaries open a little late and progressively. This makes them more streetable.

Re: What size carb should I go with
RPM's should be from Idle to 5500.. but probally more around the 3k mark.. but that would all change with what stall convertor I go with wouldnt it? Im still a bit fuzzy on high stall converters
What brands or builders would one suggest?
QFT, Holley, Edelbrock, BG, Demon... or other builders that are well respected
Cost isnt the issue, the quality is what Im after Build it once, build it right

Only 5500? With that much duration, I'd think at least 6500, maybe even 7000.
You want a converter that allows the engine to stall at the peak torque. Sometimes you can guess at that based on the engine specs, but a dyno session is the best way to nail that down.
QFT is a great choice, as is Holley. There are other custom shops that do a great job. BG has had some quality issues in the past few years, but may have gotten past that. Edelbrock carbs should be avoided completely.

Re: What size carb should I go with
So I emailed Quick Fuel.. They got back to me and said that their SS-830 would be perfect...
That would give me the choke, and 830cfm.. which im still wondering if that wont be a bit low but yeah..
think thats a good choice?

252-262 and you want streetable? thats gonna be one mean street machine
I used a BG 750 annular for my 383 with 230-236 and a T56 so if I were you I would definatly stay at or above 830cfm and eavin rework it some for more air
I hear holleys are good for that 4150 or equivalent
