Does anyone know where to get a manual choke kit?
My brother in law just rebuilt my carb but my choke linkage was damaged so he threw it all away (including the butterfly valve i think thats what its called) so I'm looking for a place to get a manual choke. Its just a regular rochester 600 I think, its on a 305. The car runs good though, obviously, not so much at idle. Thanks guys!

Do you mean a stock factory quadrajet?
I don't know of any source that lists a complete choke kit, but this outfit http://www.carburetion.com/parts.htm may be able to help you out.
(FWIW, the choke doesn't affect idle after the engine has warmed up.)

Yeah, once she warms up she runs like a champ but before she'll idle ok as long as i have my foot on the gas juuust a smidge. I found another rochester today and I got a manual choke kit for it so I'm gonna see what I can do about making it work...I may need some help so I'll post back if I do. Thanks!

If it doesn't work, Jegs or Summit have kits available...

You'll probably have to get butterfly new or from a junkyard. Universal hand coke kit @ Jegs part # 555-15830 6ft cable, cut it to fit....

Yeah it definitely sucked that he threw it away but I found another carb laying around my garage that I used. How would I go about putting an electric choke or vacuum choke on it and getting it to work? I haven't worked with carbs much before.

I dunno what's missing or what's there. Honestly It's been a while since I worked on a Rochester, I am a Holley guy. I would find a site like the one mentioned above,or a manual (library?), figure out the parts list and go to a parts store and purchase them. I do remember the electric choke part on the old Q-jet being called the choke thermostat. It went directly onto the side of the carb and fit onto the shaft, turning the shaft closed when cold and opening when hot. Wish i could be of more assistance, will check my manual when I get to the shop today....

The E4ME sticky has decent pictures https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...e-rebuild.html . Your carb should only have the front vacuum break.
It really irks me to hear of people doing things like this. Rather than figure out how something should be, just rip it apart, throw stuff away, and then call it "junk".

Yeah, there was really no reason to throw the butterfly or the little bar it sits on away...but it was really nice of him to rebuild it for for free so I can't complain too much. Its on the car and the car finally runs right since I put the manual choke on it I'm just happy to finally be driving her again.

If it becomes too much of a headache to get a choke on it, just buy a holley 4150 and be done with it

I got the choke on it alright but I found a TPI assembly for it manifold and all for $50. I'm pretty sure this car was TPI before, and all of the wiring harness is still there so I'm gonna go see about picking that up. Hopefully my old fuel pump is still in my tank lol.
