need some help!! Going to go Carb
This is my first engine build. My project has been on hold for a long time. I am thinking about building my 350 for my 91 Camaro and going carb. I do not need to worry about emmision testing. I have this cam installed..http://store.summitracing.com/partde...&view=1&N=700+
I have a set of dart iron eagle s/s heads but I took them to a machine shop and they did a full port job and installed 2.02/1.6 valves in them.
I bought a Torker II single plane intake. From what I read I think I might have been better off with a dual plane air gap. Can you guys fill me in on the difference between single plane and dual plane. Will I be ok with the single plane?
I am trying to build a street car that will be quick at take off and remain fast at higher rpms. I don't really understand the whole powerband topic. If someone cares to explain that would be great.
I also swapped a 4th gen rear in with 3.73 gears.
I read the sticky about swapping to carb from tbi. It says you can take out the ECM and throw it away when done. But someone told me the ECM will still be needed because it controls the speedo. Is this true?
Can you guys help me by giving me your opinons on all of this. I am just trying to learn and understand so that when I do my build I am sure I have the right parts matched. Thanks for the help.

Re: need some help!! Going to go Carb
Since you say you want a street car that "will be quick at take-off and remain quick at higher RPM's", I would definitely recommend going with a dual-plane. A single-plane will sacrifice a lot of low-end torque to make relatively small gains in the higher RPM's. Summit Racing makes intake manifolds that are identical to Weiland's, but just have the Summit name on them for a lot less money. Personally, I would go with the stage 3 and open up the bolt holes with a dremel.
As for your speedometer, a '91 would have an electronic VSS. As for whether that goes through the ECM, I don't know. A search would be the easiest way to find out.
EDIT: After looking at the RPM range for that cam, a stage 3 would probably be too "aggressive". Also let us know which carburetor you are using, because a Q-Jet will need a spread bore intake, while something like an Edelbrock or Holley will take a square bore

I acutally haven't decided on a carb at this point. I was thinking of going with a Holley square bore. I will have to take a look on summit's site. Does anyone have a suggesion of what type of carb would be good to use?

A little more info would be helpful. What kind of power do you expect/want to make? Does your car have a manual or automatic transmission?
Summit sells 3 carburetors under their name, and if you're making a decent amount of power the 750 cfm version with mechanical secondaries is quite a bargain.
-For what it's worth, Summit brand products are actually another company's product with Summit's name stamped on them. (In this instance, it's the same thing as a Holley carburetor) I buy Summit brand products whenever I can, and have NEVER had a quality issue.

Re: need some help!! Going to go Carb
Summit said they will let me exchange the TorkerII for the air gap but which one should I get since I am using the dart Iron eagle heads? http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...03955&D=303955
It says the 2604's are for 87 to 95 so I am guessing these heads were made during that time but I dont know for sure.

You can get the intake that fits '86 and earlier heads and make it fit fine. You will just have to use a dremel to change the angle on the bolt holes on the intake. Many people on this site have done it. For a carburetor, I would recommend Summit's 750 cfm carburetor with mechanical secondaries.
