Carb problem?
My L69 is bone stock original with 72xxx miles. Recently the engine has developed a miss at idle and feels like it wants to stall out while in gear at idle(500rpm). When accelerating in gear(Auto) the pedal has a large "dead spot' and the motor feels like it wants to die. If you floor it the secondaries will open up and it will accelerate but nowhere near what it should be. You really have to baby the pedal to keep it running while driving. While in "park' the engine idles fairly well and still has the miss, although pedal response in park feels pretty good. My mechanic has just started to look at it and pulled the carb. Everything looked pretty good and all the sensors tested well. He did say it appeared it was running lean, but other than that the motor appeared to be untouched. Also, the fuel gauge is not working and it was traced to a problem in the tank. When the tank gets low on fuel and you turn the ignition off, I can hear fuel bubbling back into the fuel tank. I'm sure that's not supposed to be happening. I'm wondering if there is a restriction in the gas line or something causing the lack of power. i don't think the timing has been messed with since new but i'm guessing. I'm sure that my mechanic will find the problem, I am interested if anyone has had a similar problem so I can save him some time in chasing dead ends.

Recent tune up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter. going to change fuel filters to see what they look like.

Re: Carb problem?
UPDATE: The problem was traced to a bad fuel tank sending unit. There is a breather line on the sending unit which was clogged. It would not let air flow into the tank. The fuel tank actually partially collapsed because of it. Imagine a 2 liter soda bottle when you apply back pressure. I usually kept the tank full so the problem was minimal, but recently I let the tank run low and thats when I noticed the problem. When the tank was full it would run fine, but as the tank emptied it would get no fuel pressure and the motor would lean out. Imagine my suprise when we pulled the tank shield and saw a "crushed" tank. I was able to blow air in the tank and it popped back into shape with no damage. I have another sending unit coming so I shouldn't have anymore problems(hopefully). I figured I would post this in case someone else has a similar problem.
