I didnt want to make two different threads on what might be the same thing?

First, when i start my car, ONLY SOMETIMES i have blue smoke shoot out of my exhaust pipe. i hate it, makes ppl look at me like i have a crap car and kinda smells lol. but idk why it is happening? how to fix that?

also, i was told that my carb might need the floats set. How would one go about doing something like this? and is it extremely complicated?

EDIT* and when i shut it off, it wants to keep going, dad calls it DEISELING. but i do not know the correct term. it sounds like its trying to stay running, like the carb may have more fuel in it or something. I figured out that if i wait a few minutes and the RPMs go down, it wont do it, but when i come to a stop in my driveway and almost immediately turn it off, it "deisels" so thanks for any advice, would love any and all!!

 

Blue smoke usually means that the valve stem seals are worn, allowing a bit of oil to seep past the valve when the car sits, and on startup this touch of oil burns. It's not necessary to fix right away - think of it as an extra drop of oil in each cylinder for extra lubrication.

"Deiseling" usually occurs when the timing is off - get the car timed and see if it stops.

Adjusting floats means taking the carb apart - it's not hard for someone that has done it - I'm sure if you do a search here or on the internet you'll find instructions and pics - but try the timing first before you tear into the carb.

 

well, i have never tore apart a carb, so ill get it timed first. the oil in the valve stem seals, not too bad i guess, but what are those and how do i fix it if i were going to?

 

if you're going to fix the valve stem seals you have to take the valve covers off and pressurize the cylinder and remove the rocker arms and valve springs. Your seals have probably hardened and that's why it leaks. No big deal really just watch your oil consumption.

 

Not with Holley and Demon carbs.

I didn't see anything that stated what type of carb we're talking about here.
