Quick plug read

What do you see? I'm mainly concerned with the ground strap right now, I know the carb needs serious tuning.

I know the carb needs serious tuning.

I would also verify your ignition system, your plugs are showing the symptoms of rich fuel with weak spark.

Re: Quick plug read

I will look into that, thanks. I have a cheapo ProComp HEI and 6AL box waiting to be hooked up. I will hook that up and see if it helps the situation.

What on the plug exactly shows demonstrates weak spark and rich fuel?

Re: Quick plug read

the black carbon soot near the threads is showing the rich condition and the speceled spots on strap is the weak ignition.

Re: Quick plug read

Nice, thanks man.

Does the soot indicate rich at idle? I am almost sure its running very lean at cruise and under power but I know for a fact it idles pig rich!

I couldn't get a good timing read, looks like there is too much in the motor but it doesn't really like to run on any less.

I'm also torn on my heat range...

Re: Quick plug read

If your running pig rich at idle then that may be causing the weak ignition. it is likely fouling the plugs. I recomend fixing the carb problem first then address the ignition which may not be an issue. not sure which carb your running?

Running the Summit branded 750 double pumper based off the old Holley 4010's. I'm sure my ignition needs tweaking, at least the timing. Carb seems to be rich at idle and lean under cruise and WOT. I am playing with so many variables its like one gigantic rubix cube.
