As warned:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...mods-fate.html
The '57 with 396, E85 carb spun a bearing and cracked the transmission bell housing 6/25, so it won't be driven like that again. Next up is souped-up LQ4/4L80E (will stay EFI).
When Berlinetta #1 is pulled into the garage (probably Thursday), it will be the last carb equipped vehicle I have available to drive. It doesn't have insurance on it now, so it's just from the driveway to the center stall of the garage. LS1/4L60E going in (will stay EFI).

Damn 57, how hard were you turning it?
I saw the other thread about what happened, sucks! But hey, time to get that swap going....

Shifting at 6100, going through the traps at about 5800. Nothing too drastic. The LQ4 will probably shift at 7000.

Re: This is it
Damn, five7... glad you are setting up the Berlinetta... but what will be the fate of the '57?? ('57 is my birth year, and I have always had a soft spot for those cars).
Not that I am not interested in the super swap... I just want to know what is next for the '57.

Berlinetta #1 gets a 2000 LS1/4L60E with shaved 317 heads and 3000 stall converter.
The '57 gets a 2003 LQ4/4L80E with L92 heads (look like rectangular port BBC heads), TBD cam, 4000 stall.

Re: This is it
Interesting. I am just learning about all these Gen III engines... LQ4 should probably go right in there without having to change over to different accessories, no? I figure the '57 should have lots of room for all that.
How is the fitment vis a vis the oil pan?

I'm only doing water pump and alternator. The factory LQ4 water outlet neck interferes with the L76 (passenger car) intake TB, so I need to do something different ('10 Camaro appears as though it would work). The LQ4 oil pan sticks down quite a bit, I might have to go to the H8 style (f-body doesn't work).
