Decide the Mod's fate
I'm steadily and somewhat quickly losing my carb-ness. 3 years ago we sold our '84 conversion van with q-jet 350. Soon after I purchased Berlinetta #2 with LG4, but the carb'd engine was pulled out in early '08 and now has an LS1 (keeping EFI). Berlinetta #1 will start getting its own LS1/4L60E as soon as Berlinetta #2 has an exhaust system installed next month and is declared road-worthy (#1 is also keeping EFI). The '57 with 396 E85 Holley will be getting a LQ4/4L80E on steroids after the season and after Berlinetta #1 is back on the road, whichever comes last (keeping EFI).
After that, my "fleet" will be carb-less.
So, you decide my fate.

Lack of carb vehicle doesn't stop you from being knowledgeable on the topic. If you'd rather not bother modding anymore, that's cool, but nobody's going to hold your current fuel system against you.

Just create a Quadrajet/Emissions only section that he can mod, there would only be one post tho, something like:
"I pitty the fool who remove his Quadrajet, you can't get no better, it's self adjusting!"
"Don't even ask me about another carb, if you do I will refer you to the above statement"
"Don't mess with your Emission stuff, it is Illegal and you will blow up!"
Just an Idea

But knowing you care about the members & those of us who lack utility, do you think you will NOT EVER add your know-how, tips or tricks????
You most likely have forgotten more than I will learn!!
Either way, YOUR MIND IS OURS!!!

Thanks, Flame, perhaps that can be my last post. . .
The "real" job of a moderator is to enforce Board rules. The tech part is gravy. It's a little easier to read all the posts, though, if you're interested in the general topic.
I try to treat people as I would like to be treated (don't always succeed, I'm afraid), and provide advice that would be useful to me if I was asking the question (can't always be done).
I have to say, though, that the majority of the stuff I know came from TGO. My goal is to pay it forward.
So, if you grow weary of my "keep the CC q-jet" advice, take it for what it's worth (and, if I told you that, you either were considering an Edelbrock Performer carb, or don't have a manual transmission
). And, remember, I also run a Holley, and haven't told everyone to toss their Edelbrock . . .

Isn't modding more of a babysitting job than anything else? There are lots of knowledgeable carb guys here, but I doubt most would really be able to properly look after their 'assigned section'.

I'm not a carb guy(87 GTA 5.7 TPI) but, with over 35,000 posts, tells me that you care and know alot about carbs and are willing to share what you know!(good for you).As for babysitting.....ALL MEMBERS should be keeping an eye out for the Bad Apples out there!!!!!
I do hope that IF you give up your status as Mod, that you will stay as a Very active member of TGO!!!!!!!!

Well, I also moderate the Engine Swap and Tech General Engine forums, so I'll remain a mod one way or another.
Just letting you know beforehand what's coming down the road - my "hands-on" days with carbs are numbered.
Oh, I just sold a Holley 750 DP today as well.

Hey five7...
I think you should stay on the carb forum as long as you can. We need all the quadra-savvy guys we can get on TGO. And personally I like seeing early third gens with their original equipment, including their stock carbs.
Long live the quadrapuke/quadrajunk/quadraflush/quadrabog/quadrapuff/quadrahuff/quadrajuice!!!

AHahahahah!!! Phoenix, that is SO true about 5.7!! LOL!

five7.... you have been here forever to me. We have lost most of the "old timers" to where?... no one knows. Jester, RB, Vader... no more I say!
So with that known you say....
So what! You still have knowledge on them correct? Or will that be forgotten now that you are Mr. LSx?
K... I vote you get back to work!

Oh, I'm happy enough. Just want to keep the masses happy...
Just so you know, I no longer have a carb'd vehicle to drive. The 396 is broken (and I'm not going to spend LQ4 money to fix it), and the ZZ4 is a chain and a hoist away from coming out (and funds from selling off the pieces will be used to finance the install of the LS1/4L60E). So, I won't be able to go out to the parking lot or garage to see how something is set up/wired/etc.

Funny, I mod the EFI forum and my car is carbed, and my truck is diesel.
Though I grab an EFI setup when a user bails in the for sale forum.

Well, I still say, "Stick with what you've got." Meaning if you have TPI, improve the TPI. If you have carb, improve the carb.
Of course, in this case, they are engine swaps, and I'm sticking with what the engines have.
Oh, I drove the turbo diesel truck to work today.

Edelbrock sells a Carbed LS1 Intake complete with ignition control module adapter. CCC Qjet on top of a LS1? I'm just saying.
On a more serious side, you've helped me alot with many of my carb issues Five7, so if you go, I for one will miss you.

Re: Decide the Mod's fate
I just picked up on this thread yesterday. I, too, am being claimed by the EFI reality. I still own 4 carbeurated vehicles and and at times frustrated trying to get them to run properly. Since I subscribed to TGO several years ago, life has become easier. Whenever I have had carb questions I came here, to the carb boards. More often than not I followed threads that ended with your sage advice and observations. You, sir, have a wealth of knowlege, and I am sure that many will agree. Whatever you decide, Godspeed, and Thank You! Randy

Re: Decide the Mod's fate
Just caught this. I've been a Q-jet man (CC & non) ever since my first experience with a Holley back in 1980. I share your convictions five7. I too have a couple of carbed, and a couple of injected cars. Properly tuned the Q-jets are unbeatable in the carb world, but the newer efi (02 Firehawk & 06 GTO) is pretty awesome. Your input and moderating here has been greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you have contributed, and all you will bring in the future of TGO.

I'll stick around. I don't currently have a carb'd vehicle - closest I can come is the lawn mower. I'll just try to keep my mouth shut if I'm not sure of something.
