Backfiring,Bogging, I just dont know
I just put a new motor in my 82 Camaro.
The motor is a 307 with everything stock. I put the motor in with a 650 Edelbrock Carb and it run great, then I found out the distributor springs were bad so I put my other distributor in. It run like a whole new motor. I started it up a week later and it would bog when giving any throttle at all. I decide to trade my edelbrock for a 650 Double Pumper. I put the carb on with the universal base plate to my edelbrock performer intake. The car would start right up, it now backfires and bogs really bad. I also had one backfire that sounded like a gun when off. I have the timing at initial 12, when every I plug the vacuum advance in it doesn't advance it at an idle. I took the distributor cap off and If I suck on the hose to the vacuum advance it moves. When I have my timing light hooked up, the timing will advance. I have the idle mixture screw about 2 out were I can get the best vacuum. I'm getting about 15 vacuum in park at 1000 RPM and putting in it drive it will drop to 800 RPM and get about 11 vacuum. I sprayed a whole can of carb cleaner everywhere trying to find the a vacuum leak. I have the brake-booster and tranny to the a manifold port. The PCV valve is hook up behind the carb. I also have smoke coming out the breather filter on the right crankcase, it doesn't look like blow-by. I think I may have blowen the powervavle in the carb but when I turn the idle mixture screw all the way in it will die.
I also have the float set at the right spot, where it gribbles out the sight plug.
What do you guys think?

If you have the vacuum line to the distributor connected to the ported vacuum on the carb, you won't get any advance at idle, only on part throttle.
Since everything was fine before you swapped distributors (at least for awhile), then I'd say you need to recheck everything. Maybe you are 180* off, maybe there's a plug wire not all the way on the plug or cap, maybe there's a break in a plug wire, maybe you firing order is off, etc.

Whoops, I guess I over looked it twice. I had spark plug 3 and 5 switched. The car runs great, I bought a bottle of carb cleaner and I have a vacuum leak on the right side of the carb. I'm pulling about 14 vacuum I think I put some gasket maker on the left side and see if it helps but the motor runs awesome. I can't even give it 1/2 throttle without spinning the tires.
