e4me carb on 85 v8

I have a 85 camaro with a v8 and long ago when i first bought the car it ran great, it was fast and smooth. one day the i was driving and my car backfired and it would not accelerate anymore. it would idle, and it would move when i tapped the gas, but a consistent depression on the pedal yielded no results.

i bought a carb from autozone and the guy said it was the right one. i bolted it up and noticed that the electrical connectors didnt have a spot to connect to. i reslized that this was the wrong carb. i already had it hooked up and flowing. the car still started up and ran, but much much crappier and slower.

it was my only car and i needed to get to work
well recently i purchased a used e4me from someone and i have tha hooked up and the electrical connectors hooked up as well. but, since ive removed the old carb and ive had the non cc carb, ive forgotten where all the vaccum lines go. and the car isnt running or starting well at all.

advice and pictures if you have them will be greatly appreciated.

Re: e4me carb on 85 v8

Get a service manual and it will have all the diagrams for emissions equipment routing and all that. I had mine laying open next to me while I hooked everything back up on mine. Much easier that way.

I took a look under the hood. and the emissions sticker is gone. ive since capped off the two ports that had no home on the carb. i wont have the time to run her up and try more things til next week.

Wouldn't hurt to check the compression. Sounds like it could have jumped time, possibly. hope not..

Re: e4me carb on 85 v8

Not sure if this will help, but if your Camaro has an LG4 305, then I'm pretty sure the emissions diagram is identical to a 85 Firebird with the LG4 305.

I redrew this 84 LG4 emissions diagram using photshop and comparing the diagram under my hood with the one in my Chilton; the only difference I saw between 84 and 85 was a plastic little check valve near the AIR tubes.

No real reason not to hook them all back up.

Re: e4me carb on 85 v8

If you're running a CCC setup, you need a functioning EGR.

The CC carb without a functioning EGR won't ever run right. Best just to disconnect the lines, get an old HEI vacuum distributor and use the carb you bought from autozone if you aren't willing to hook it back up.

Funny, mine ran fine for 4 years without an EGR valve. Had to have the solenoid hooked up to keep it from turning on the SES light, but it ran fine.

By the way, there's a thread on the FAQ forum with vacuum diagrams in it.

My 87 with a 350 and vortec heads runs fine with no EGR. However, when I swapped a 350 with LO5 heads into my 85 I got light pinging at low speed (35 or so) cruise with throttle tip in. Repairing the EGR (it was the solenoid) fixed that issue.

Neither would light the SES with an EGR code when it was disconnected. Probably different ECM versions.

Hinges-Ball Bearing, Non-Removable Pins, US 32D Finish, Hager ECBB1101 4 ½ x 4 ½.

Wait that was a hardware spec.
