choke problem...SOLVED
Hi guys,
Not sure if I have a choke or an electrical problem here.
I noticed the other day that my choke will not fully shut off.
The lock mechanism for the throttle/choke seems to spring back popping my rev up to about 1500. Looks to be called the fast idle from the exploded diagram. I can push it down and the choke goes off...but as soon as I touch the throttle it resumes the very high idle. This was perfect until the other day.
Now I just noticed this the other day. However when I brought my car home a few weeks ago I was getting a continuous buzzing from my warning center. It's been sitting since then and started a few times with the same sound every time. What's that about? My choke light stays on after it is well and truly warmed up.
My check engine was on too but it has since gone out and at the time there were no codes...WEIRD.
It's not a daily driver so no big deal...just another gremlin to find I guess.
I think there's some messed up wiring in the engine bay behind the motor. The protective black wire sleeve is all melted and a couple wires show the same.
Also...there was 1 ground wire that I recall on one carb bolt (like a flat washer style that the bolt goes clean through) but have since found another, well I think it is a ground (I do not recall removing this ). Without this connected the motor will run fine and when I set it to ground the motor speeds up and I have to relax the idle a bit to get it down.
Now wondering if this is related.
Maybe I'll try removing that ground and trying again.
This did not affect the buzzer since I did this after the car got here.
As always any insight is a help.
THANKS.

Re: choke problem...
OK
Actually I was going to check for voltage today...but got side-tracked while looking for my DMM and never got back to it.
Thanks for advice. I'll try that tomorrow after work.

Re: choke problem...
Wow....
Just as simple as that......
Indeed the choke heater fuse was blown.
I figure I inadvertently caused that while wiring my alarm/starter a couple of weeks ago.
I hope some day to have half your knowledge about these cars.
I thank you IMMENSELY.
I'll mark this as solved if I remember how.
