TCC Lock on 200c

I've read all the articles in the TCC lockup area(I think) and was just wondering if any of you could tell me how to wire mine. I was thinking about putting a pressure switch in the back port behind valvebody and using that to ground the TCC lockup, but what size pressure switch would I use? I know it depends on what speed I want it to lock up, but what if I wanted it to lock around 45? What size, and I can use that port right? My 200C had a plug on it, but in the GM book, it had one on Deizel models, not on TA models.

Can I just put a pressure switch there and make it a ground? I really don't want to use a switch. I've seen where you guys are also using Vac controlled switches. How would I wire those if I've only got an A and D wire? Not that I'm not reading these articles , but alot of these are for the 700r4, do I just ignore the 4th gear section on the 700 articles? I really like the idea of being able to adjust the vacuum control , but where do I pick one up at and what is the schematics on everything. (Not trying to be too dumb, just need help with this)(I know, big dummy) Just a little confused(ya think).

Just need to know which way will be best for a 200C with 2 wires(A and D) from tranny. Using the pressure switch inside the tranny or wiring a vacuum switch? If somebody could be nice enough to help me out, that would be sooooo awesome. Thanks guys, just be easy on me! Kind of new to the tranny world.

The pinout of the case connector is the same as the 700, +12V to A, ground to D. Not sure what the internal wiring might look like in terms of switches, etc.

Apeiron, I was hoping you would answer. Right behind the valvebody is a port that was plugged up with a screw cap, could I maybe put a pressure switch there? or should I just use a vacuum type switch? Where do ya pick up the vacuum switch from ?

I've been following your write ups and they are grea Apeiron. I'm so thankful for some of these type sites and the people. Thanks! I'm just wondering what type of pressure switch also, if I go this route. I've got another 88 that is going carb, I'm going to have to do the same thing on it. We've only owned this 82 for about 3-4 months, and I got the engine top end rebuilt , now it's time for the tranny. It's never shifted into the TCC section. I've been trying not to go too fast in it, just cruizin around town, but man, it takes so long to get anywhere, going so slow all the time.

I could just use a switch, but where this is more my wife's car, I want to simplify everything for her and make it sort of stock acting without switches. I'm basically asking, which way to go, pressure switch(if I can) or vacuum switch, (what type and where do ya plug it in at on the engine). I can only thank you so much for the articles you've done on this, awesome work! Thanks and I'll try to look up some more stuff and maybe take a pic or two. Thanks again.....

Re: TCC Lock on 200c

I don't really know much about the TH200C's TCC. AFAIK, unlike the 700, it's hydraulically possible for the 200C to lockup in 1st gear, so you'd need something to make sure it's not going to lock up at low speed. I think at least some of them had a 3rd gear in the valvebody from the factory for this. Electrically though everything should be similar to the 700R4 circuit.

I'd probably try to treat it more-or-less just like a 700 if I was going to do it all from scratch, with a vacuum switch outside, and a 3rd gear switch inside. I don't have a valvebody diagram to know where the 3rd gear switch would go, though. Alternatively, the B&M control could be used to keep it from locking at low speed.

Re: TCC Lock on 200c

Hey Apeiron,
I just tried a switch for the 12V supply to transmission, and I also put pin D , put it on a ground. My thinking was that if I grounded the TCC up and then put a 12V switch, I could just turn it on and off when I liked. For some reason, this is not locking up at all. Basically it is ran like this:

12V going to brake switch, then going to my switch.( I can actually watch the light go on and off) under braking. So I know this is wired correctly.

Next, I put the pin D coming out of Trans to a straight common ground (firewall) .

Now, If I'm correct, this should lock up at any speed I prefer, correct? This is not doing any RPM drop or anything. Confused. Bad solenoid you think?

I also checked my TV cable when I had the pan off, it is pushing valvebody all the way back where it belongs, for passing gear, yet still no passing gear. What do ya think is the problem? (besides it being a crapp 200)Getting tired of F'n around with this thing. (sorry sounded harsh , but man, never had this kind of issue with any trans I've owned) Getting past my knowledge of transmissions. I might just have to take it to a tranny shop.

All gears shift early too.... I can only manually shift it for speed reasons. If I let it shift by itself , with me flooring it, it shifts around 3,000 RPM, not 4,000 or 4500... weird huh? Anyway, what do ya think?
