charcoal canister
Hello everyone. I have an 83 z28 and I'm replacing my emissions controlled carbureted intake system with a holly street avenger and performer intake. I'm getting rid of the egr, smog pump, and all the other related emissions parts. I'm not sure about the charcoal canister in the front of the car. I think it vents the gas tank and carb but I'm not sure. Should I keep the canister or get rid of it? Also I have a LOT of extra wires that will not have anything to plug in to once the swap is complete. Many come off of the carb and intake and many of the old emissions parts. Do most of these run back to the computer and is it safe to just rip out the computer along with the wires that will not be re used? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: charcoal canister
well there is a lot of factors to consider when answering your question.
for starters does your state or area emissions test vehicles?
if so you must have your smog equipment present on the car.
also some states do not test emissions but do inspect your car for the equipment that has been federaly mandated since 1975.
things like catylitic converters and such. I have heard of people getting pulled over by law enforcement for traffic infractions and the officer looking under the car for the said converter. so be fore warned if you remove some thing you might regret it later. I myself have removed every thing exept the cat and been able to pass emissions. so do some checking about your peticular state and find out for sure.

Re: charcoal canister
Well I live in Maryland and my car is registered as historic so I am exempt from emissions laws. The first step in my conversion was making sure I don't need to worry about that anymore.
