Dug out the bird today... Also, fuel economy ideas???

So I had dug out the Trans Am today, and knowing that gas is on the rise and I was having major carb issues last year, I had decided to grab a quadrajet that has been off the road since my dads hot rodding days, and rebuilt it right. So, as the installation was coming to an end, my cousin and I had checked everything for leaks, and we heard "Panama" come on the radio, just in time for us to take it for a test run around the block. Anyone else have things work like that? Also, does anyone else have any basic fuel economy ideas for these hard times?

add a vacuum gauge ~ $12 w/shipping ebay; don't connect after the line going to the vacuum ball side (collector). from dead stop maybe 8 to begin then slowly let off gas until highest vacuum obtained at driving speed.

IMO too slow a start actually keeps carb feeding engine rich longer during prolonged off idle circuit (and takes any fun out of driving an f-body)

I heard "Fat Bottom Girls" come on the radio when my big block dropped onto its mounts for the first time in my '83
