Suspected Carb Problem??

I have a 500c buggy and it a pain to get going and will never stay going, when it does fire it has no throttle response and will usually die within a few minutes i Just changed the spark plug in it and said before i put it all back together because had tank and that off id try squirt some petrol straight through carburetor into engine from where the air filter connection is and whey hey fired on first turn and would run as long as i wanted it too providing i supplied petrol but then tried to fire it from a bottle of petrol acting as the tank into sump of carburetor and nope nothing it fired for split second and cut out, im guessing there something up with carburetor and its ability to pump petrol through, i opened it yesterday cleaned it and float and pin etc all seemed ok any ideas would be appreciated? Hopefully i dont need a new carburetor

Thanks, Brian

Sorry, unless your buggy is a thirdgen Camaro or Firebird, this isn't the place for you.
