Need help restoring Qjet ID code; it has been compromised
I have a couple Quadrajets I found for free at a scrap yard; a Rochester and a Carter. The Carter has an ID code but someone has grinded the number or scraped or something. Not sure why anyone would do that, but either way, I would like to know if anyone has any knowledge on how one could go about restoring that number or at least restoring to a point where it is half way legible. It's a long shot, but I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks.

What do you need the number for?

Mainly for my curiosity. I would just like to know what I have. I'm a bit OCD about organizing most everything. Also, If I fix up the carb and decide not to use and want to sell, I want to know exactly what I'm selling for my and the buyer's sake.

Chemical etching is the normal method to try to recover obliterated serial numbers, but anything would be a lot of effort for no reason.
The serial number would only really be of importance to someone doing a numbers-matching restoration, in which case they wouldn't want something that's been defaced anyway.
