Need help with my idle
Need help with my idle
Hey everyone, I did some looking on the forum and I noticed a few idle issues but they didnt help me figure out mine. I have an 84 305 H.O. Carb
and in park it idles at 2000 and climbs to about 2200 every now and then. When i have the car in reverse or neutral in idles at about 1000 and climbs back up when in park. I dont know what to do...
Im not very good with cars Im still learning this car isnt registered so I cant really take it out for a drive. Somebody told me I can adjust a screw on the carb to adjust the idle but i dont know where it is, im posting 2 pictures of my carb; one from each side; i would appreciate if someone could repost the pictures with the piece highlighted or circled or something thanks for all the help guys anything is useful. if you need more info ill give you whatever i can just let me know.

It's more likely your choke isn't opening all the way. From your 2nd photo, it appears your choke heater wire connector is broken, and the tab on the choke side is corroded. Make sure voltage is getting to the choke thermostat so it can warm up and open up.
Re: Need help with my idle
the wire isnt actually broken, i did notice that though, ill check into it, but why does it only speed up in park? that when it speeds up.
Edit:
I also forgot to mention when I'm under the hood i can pull the throttle back and lower the rpm, it moves maybe 1/8 of an inch but it moves right back when i let go.

Disconnect the throttle cables and see if the throttle operates as it should. If it does, you've got a problem in one of the cables. If it doesn't, then you've got something hanging up with the carb.
Does the choke open when the engine has been running for several minutes?

Re: Need help with my idle
the choke is the little part right? I dont run the car very long because I dont have an engine fan as of now. Is it supposed to open after it starts? I dont know much about cars I apologize.
Thanks for the help again everyone really.
