tpi to carb

hey i have a 305 tpi i plan on converting to a carburetor due to low fuel pressure well basically i dont have to much time to fix it but i do have the power of good ol' American currency anyway im wondering if anyone knows how much it would cost a shop to swap it and about how long you think it'd take for a shop to fix it.

It would cost a whole lot more than replacing the fuel pump and/or the pressure regulator, even if both are bad; and will cost you even more in the future with reduced fuel economy.

To say nothing of the fact that unless you do a computer carb system, it will also be illegal for street use in all 50 of the United States.

Since carbs haven't been used by GM for over 20 years, most shops these days aren't that familiar with them. Those that are would be "specialty" shops, and you can guess what their rates would be relative to the run-of-the-mill repair shop. So, the chances of getting it done right the first time are somewhere between slim and none, with many returns to try again to get it right to be expected.

The first thing I would expect is they wouldn't understand all of the parts that are required to do the job properly - their first estimate will likely, therefore, be much lower than the final cost. The second is they wouldn't do the transmission interface properly, and you'll burn up your transmission within a week. Third, they're going to have to drop the tank to replace or remove the existing in-tank electric fuel pump (assuming they have a clue what they're doing), so whatever costs you think you're avoiding, you really aren't.
