Re: betsy big block update
OK, so let me see if I can understand what you did.....
You took the rear metering block and main body from an original 780 vacuum secondary carb (factory 396 375HP motor from the late 60s/early 70s) and swapped them onto a later model 3310 carb (universal perfromance 750 CFM vacuum secondary).
I don't see why that wouldn't work except that those parts might be worth more to a restoration guy than they are on your home-brewed carb. Holley makes a rear metering block conversion kit for reasonable money. And the main body on a 780 is damned near identical to the common 3310- not much to be gained there, in my opinion.
Those jets seem a bit fat, but who knows when you build a "Frankenstein" carb.
When you do a secondary metering block conversion on a 3310 using the Holley kit the secondary metering block does NOT have a power valve. And it comes with #76 jets installed which are the same size as the jet holes in the original metering PLATE.
If you're running #83 jets PLUS a power valve that's like running a straight #91 jet on the secondary side (power valve adds about 8 jet sizes when it's open). That's a LOT of fuel on the secondary side. Maybe it's what your motor wants but I thought I'd mention it to point out why I think you might be playing on the "fat" end of the tuning curve. Even on a mild blow-through turbo setup secondary jets in the low-mid 90s are typical. Without forced induction that's some really BEEFY jetting you're running back there.

Re: betsy big block update
Did a carb "build" based on information he's heard on the street and is basically regurgitating underneath his hood which is FURTHER exacerbated by the placebo effect perhaps?
Sorry but Travis hit the nail right on the head.
