I have a stock hood on my 85 ta. 305 with a qjet.and stock intake. And one of the 30$ edelbrock air filter from Autozone . If I buy edelbrock performer carb and adapter plate would it clear the hood???

 

I think you will have to get a drop base for the air filter. I started doing research on that but then found a cowl hood at the local wrecking yard.

 

The stock air cleaner with the stock intake and stock carb is drop base.

A word of advice: Forget the Edelbrock carb. It is a downgrade from the stock q-jet. In every way possible. Not only will you need an adapter (an aftermarket intake with both spreadbore and squarebore mounts would make more sense than an adapter), you will also need to get a different distributor. And you'd need some means to lock up the torque converter clutch. And a "corrector" bracket for the carb throttle arm for the TV cable. Every piece a downgrade (except possibly the aftermarket intake manifold).
