Carbed LB9 - Modifications for Autocross

I'm looking into options for building up my 305 for autocross and weekend use. My goal is to make the flattest hp and torque curves I can get and also to find a good sweet spot for the car. By sweet spot, I mean running around 3000-4000 rpms in 2nd gear around the cones. I'm not concerned with fuel economy.

The car:
87 IROC
305 LB9
T5 (M39 with .63 5th gear)
G92
hardtop

Current mods (all by previous owner):
Holley 600cfm carb from 1970
Performer RPM intake manifold
Crane Ignition box
Accel HEI distributor
!A/C
!Smog
Rebuilt original 9 bolt with new posi cones and 3.70 gears
LS1 brakes front/rear
Koni yellow shock/struts
UMI camber plates
Adjustable panhard bar

Aside from changing the intake and ignition, the motor is original. If the car was still TPI, I'd have a better idea of what to do but this carb swap is throwing me off.

Any thoughts? I need the most input on a cam and heads because i already have a plan for my full exhaust. Is the Performer intake limiting?

I'd say show up at the PO's door with a crowbar and beat the TPI system out of him.

Haha. Well the stock TPI (minus the harness) came with the car. Factory fuel lines and factory in-tank pump are gone though.

So you mean he took the fuel lines off the car from front to back? What fuel pump is on the car now?

Well... he put a Holley blue just in front of the rear axle and wired it up through the drain hole under the back seat. But he mounted it horizontally, so it seized. He took the fuse out, left it there, and put a mechanical pump on the block. The motor is running off of that right now, but he removed the charcoal canister and there is no return line from the pump.

Long story short, it runs but it's a mess. I will be re-doing all the lines soon. The easiest way would be to just use the mech pump that it's running on now, but I was thinking I may just get a new in-tank stock pump (it's like $52) and hook that back up with the Mallory 4309.

No ones going to be able to to give any good feedback without knowing what class you plan to run in. But the fact that you changed the intake alone means that you at least be in ESP.

Re: Carbed LB9 - Modifications for Autocross

Original owner changed the brakes and removed A/C, smog, rear seats etc. so automatically I'm in CP. Which sucks because the drive train is stock. So cam and heads suggestions that are compatible with this Holley and RPM intake would be appreciated. Thanks.
