edelbrock or holley?

i got a street car, headers and .480 lift cam 110 lsa. so i dont need a nice fancy carb. im new to carbs so i dont know everything about them, my friend gave me a edelbrock 1405 for free. i rebuilt it and it had a vacuum leak somwhere. a huge vacuum leak. so i got a used holley from another friend and the car runs a hell of alot better, it wouldnt stay running with edelbrock but i sprayed starting fluid on bottom of holley carb and it revs up so its got a small vacuum leak. im just gonna but a new carb now but whats better a holley or edelbrock? i pick between these two cuz thats all they got at part stores around here and are only a couple hundred. ive heard edelbrock use cheap metal but r easy to tune and holley r real a real bitch to tune and keep tuned.

I have my best luck with holley style carbs. The one thing I don't like about Edelbrock carbs is getting the car started after the motor has been hot. I have heard this is because AFB carbs turn to boil the fuel out of the bowl, not sure if that is accurate a
I know is it does it on my truck, my dads truck and my first create motor.

My fuel boils in my Holley. Its a problem that some people have, and some people dont. Definitely not Edelbrock or Holley specific though.

Quadrajet is better than both Holley and Edelbrock. You'll get the same power numbers with better mileage.

The Q-jet is a great carburetor.

Re: edelbrock or holley?

get a quadrajet from a late 70's pickup and rebuild it.. if you've got an auto trans, make sure the carb comes off a truck with a TH350 trans so you have a place to hook your tv cable. if you've still got the stock computer controlled distributor, steal the vacuum advance distributor out of the same truck and throw a couple of lighter springs from an aftermarket advance kit in it to speed up the advance curve a bit- but keep the stock weights.

Possible the intake in leaking? If its revving up when you spray either carbs base i would suspect the intake unless you used the same gasket? I always had issues with edelbrock carbs a fuel boiling holleys are a bit better since the bowl is above the intake so has some room to let air around it but they can do the same. It sure is nice to never have to mess with my q-jet havent touched it in 4 years
