ok new to third gen camaro s, i am a classic chevy truck guy. sorry if this is a stupid question. my question is did all 1983 camaros have smog pump and cats? The reason I am asking is, because my friend is looking at a 1983 camaro with a "rebuilt" 305 that has headers and true dual exhaust. Do I need to put just catalyic converters on it to pass or do I have to add the smog system on it.

P.S what transmission did they come with?

Thanks any input will help

Re: 83 camaro smog?
All sold in the US, yes.

You ... ahem, your friend ... will need the cat and smog pump if you are in California or other places that do "visual" (see if the parts are there) inspections.

"True dual" exhaust is mostly a waste on these cars. They add enough weight that they fail to offset any power they gain over a well-designed single. They rarely fit well, and usually drag the ground and/or rub on something like the driveshaft. Usually, a total hack job (although a very few do put a great deal of effort into it).

If it's a manual, it came with a T-5; if auto, a 700.
