Carb tuning or timing? wont idle at any RPM!
I got a 305 sbc. had a Rochester carburetor before along with the computer controlled distributor. I switched them both out for a 600cfm Edelbrock 1405 carb and a ebay 65,000 volt HEI dist with msd wires.Car started up good but backfired thru carb so i advanced the dist and then no start so i retarded it and now it starts great but wont idle. i have to keep tappign on the throttle and even if i hold it at 5k RPM itll stumble and die. but i can rev it up and down forever. choke is full open new fuel lines and filter. also i notice white smoke coming out from my carb i dont have PCV hose connected. i have dist vacuum secondary connected and manifold vacuum capped and 1/4 vacuum on back capped due to the power brakes steel line fitting is to big.
Any ideas? I have messed with the mixture screws already with no luck and i can get it to idle at 3k with idle screw but itll die after a few seconds. __________________

I got it it was just my choke. I cant adjust my choke because it manual. I closed it and it idles perfect. i just set my intial timing to 10 degress and it revs like a beauty. Now i have 1 more question. How do i hoook up my 700r4 tranny? and can i connect the power brakes vacuum directly to manifold or do i have to use port in back of carb?

You'll want to connect a choke cable so you can operate it from the interior, or get an electric choke conversion kit.
You need to get the right bracketry to connect the 700R4 TV cable with the proper geometry.
Power brakes can go to the manifold runner port, or to the port on the back of the carb.

Where is manifold ruuner port? i have the q jet intake ith a carb adpater. there is a little fitting right in back of carb and right inn front of dist on top of manifold. i have it plugged. could i use that for brakes? until i get the custom line made for the back of carb?
What does the Tranny tv cable look like? i have 2 cable that were on stock bracket. ! for pedal and 1 more for idk what. I havent driven car so theirs no harm to tranny. Just needs brakes so i can move it up from the woods where ive been working on it to my shop. like 100 feet away.
