Rough idle and stalling

Car was running fin up until the other day when it was a hard time starting, and then a very rough idle, almost felt like it was misfiring or like 3 fires in a row and then a pause and it repeats. I was also noticing some smoke as well, it looked blueish but didn't smell like oil. It stalled on me a few times at stops and I spent 40 min at a gas station trying to get it to start up. When it stalls and I go to start it up it smells like I poured gas all around my car. I did a fuel system cleaner to see if it would help and did a quick seafoam in the carb, not sure which did it, but one of them made the problems go away for about 10 miles and then the rough ridding started up again. I saw that it most likely is the rings leaking oil into the piston, if this were a stock motor I could see that, but not on a 2 year old engine.

Re: Rough idle and stalling

Check the timing on your car. Mine was doing that yesterday until I got it adjusted right.

Re: Rough idle and stalling

It's always good to check your timing first. After that with you saying that it smells like you are dumping gas out I'd remove the air cleaner and check the carb to see if you have a stuck float and have gas coming out of the bowl vent into the carb. Something is causing the car to flood out when you shut it off and that is the first thing to check. Also see if anything else is leaking fuel that shouldn't be.

If you are dumping a lot of fuel into the motor I'd get that fixed right away. Too much fuel getting dumped into the motor can cause the cylinder walls to get washed down with fuel and cause premature ring wear and possible compression problems
