Need help getting it running right. HELP! First Car!! :)
Hey guys, i have a 86 Camaro IROCZ with a Quadrajet, 5 speed manual, now the car was crashed a few years back by the previous owner, he was jacking around on the freeway and went under a truck, only the front end was damaged, so i replaced the bumper and fenders with a couple trips to pick your part. Im guessing that the accident also broke a bunch off connections, encluding the one on the carb, and all the sensors. only the Gas And Speedo gauges work and the fan is controlled by a toggle switch under the dash. Well i needa get the car running right for school after this coming summer, ive replaced the sending unit in the tank and cleaned all the gas lines and replaced the Fuel pump. It starts up and stays on and it drives, but it feels as if it makes no power, sluggish, and to take off on first without stalling i got to get up to atleast 3000 rpms. Could i just replace the carb with a holley 1406 600cfm, intake and distributor to vacumm advance, and take out all the ECM and wiring harness, EGR and AIR, to get it running right and a much cleaner engine bay?
I know its long, please bare with me, hah its my first car

I personally would repair all the broke connectors and rebuild the factory carb. The tach wiring is on the distributor, white and brown wire on the drivers side of the cap. This is why the car isn't running well. WIth the connectors missing from the carb, the ecm can't control part throttle and doens't know if it's running lean or rich so it's running strait rich. The carb is also probably horribly out of tune.
If you're hell bent on replacing the electronics, you've pretty much nailed what you need to do.
On the passenger side of the car, just above the dip stick should be a sensor, right below the exhaust. This is your fan switch. Tells the single electric fan when to turn on. This probably broke which is why then need for the toggle switch.
There is antoher sensor farther down on the block. This is your knock sensor. If this reads wrong, it wll retard your timing, hindering performance.
On the drivers side, between the first two cylinders, is another sensor. This is your temp gauge. Tells the gauge in the car what to read.
