Not sure which Carb to get

Hey guys i have a 1987 iroc auto and am in need of a new carburetor. Its been making poping sounds and I have taken it to the shop just to keep it alive. This is a daily driver. It has the stock 305 engine in it. I have been looking at the Holley 4160 600 cfm but i am just not sure, I am getting confused with all the information out there. I am looking for some more performance.

Re: Not sure which Carb to get

I had a 600 on my 305 camaro. It was ok but a smaller one would be better.

First off, WELCOME TO TGO!!

Some things we'll need to know before we can really help. Where are you from? California? Somewhere else?

Do you have smog inspections where you are? If you do, you must keep your Quadrajet.

If your motor is stock, and doesn't have anything else done to it, then you have a computer controlled quadrajet (I wasn't aware the 87's still had carbs?). So, if you swap carbs, you will also have to swap your distributor to a non computer controlled version with some other minor work to go with it.

The Qjet gets a bad rap, but honestly, its one of the best carbs out there, it's just hard to tune and not alot of shops or people in general know how to tune them. I run a Qjet on my modded 350 and I have no problems what so ever.
